Walk in the Park

It was an enchanting time meandering amongst the many wonderful horticultural creations at the Garden Festival.
There was even one that had an underwater theme.
And also a touch of green glamour.

Craft Swap

Craft Swap

KBCC met at Pauseability on 26 Jul and we had a craft swap. What lovely handmade gifts were made for each other.

I am now the proud owner of a pair of hand-beaded and hand-painted mini-clogs that came in a handmade box that was decorated by hand. How handsome! Thanks Richard.

ATC on Parade Display
Besides the larger displays, we wanted to frame some of our ATCs to show the art that they are. This beautiful set from Richard promotes the ATC on Parade exhibition so well.

AoP 01 - You've Got Mail!

This is the first in a series of posts about the ATC on Parade exhibition. Excitedly looking forward to 7th August.

First Overseas Swap Cards to Arrive

The Artist Trading Card community is such an international one and at AoP, we hope that even the beginners can have a taste of that through a swap. Since it will be our National Day, the theme selected is "Singapore".

Our very first set from Lise in UK arrived yesterday. These are such beautiful cards.

You can join this swap. If you are in Singapore, just come by Pauseability during the exhibition with your ATCs. Our friends overseas would have to sign up by Sunday and have your cards in our hands by 6 August.

Whale of a Time

So happy that whaley was featured on Cuteable.

Totoro

My Neighbour Totoro is one of my favourite animation. This masterpiece by Hayao Miyazaki is as beautiful as it is powerful. In Chinese, the main character Totoro is also called "Long Mao" or Dragon Cat.

To support a fund that is for saving the forest that inspired Totoro, artists were asked "to pause and give some thought to the film. How did it inspire them? How did they feel after it ..." The collection is simply wonderful to look at.

Hayao Miyazaki's latest animation movie opens in Japan on 19 July - Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea. It is a fairytale about a goldfish that wants to become a human being.

Our Island in the Sun

Merlion
In less than a month, our first ever Artist Trading Card exhibition will commence - ATC on Parade!

One of the fun activities is a swap - anyone can join in and it will also show the international dimension of the ATC community.

Since we are celebrating our National Day, the theme is Singapore. We are expecting cards from USA, UK, Australia and Malaysia as part of the swop, and we really hope that many who have never tried making an ATC will try it for this swop.

It is challenge representing our island nation in art beyond the merlion. What would our overseas friends show on their cards? What would fellow Singaporeans do?

Get the answer at ATC on Parade from 7 to 18 August at Pauseability.

Sleep Deprived

With everything going 24/7 these days (does the internet ever sleep?), I am sure many of us are awake (or wish to be awake) longer than it might be good for us.

Enjoy this little clip from The Brothers Mcleod (they are totally quirky) and if you are reading this past your bedtime, go and sleep immediately after watching it. *hee*

One of my ATCs was used in the homepage of ATCs for All - the circus one in the middle.

Well, not such a big deal perhaps but it sure feels like such an honour.

More news about the upcoming "ATC on Parade" soon.

Everyday Matters

In one of my meanderings on the net, I came across Danny Gregory's Everyday Matters in which he shares his drawings and thoughts. There's also a related group for people to share their drawings and illustrated journals.

One of Danny's idea is that "what matters is that you pause and contemplate. If your record of that contemplation is inaccurate, try again. Feel deeper. See deeper. Slow down. Relax." This sure resonates with pauseability.

From his links, I came across Someguy's 1000 journal project. In 2000, 1000 journals were released as a method for interaction and shared creativity among friends and strangers. I simply love such ideas.

Even though only 1 journal made it back to Someguy, a film has just been made (wonder when it will screen in Singapore), he has also published a book and has also created 1001 journals.

I think I see some shots of Singapore in this trailer. Am I right?

Perhaps I shall start a shared journal at Pauseability.

Update (2 Jul): From Andrea the film-maker, I found out that she did come to Singapore for about a week. "Mainly with a wonderful artist (and now fellow film maker) Loo Zihan, but also with the group of friends who created the GELARE page -- at Gelare! Great fun." Such a coincidence that I chose their page too. There are currently no plans to screen the film here yet.
